THERMOELECTRIC AIR CONDITIONERS
This device can "save"
my computers? Well, what is it? It's a "Thermoelectric
Air Conditioner". It's similar to a regular air conditioner
except much smaller and lighter and it does NOT have a compressor
or Freon or chemicals or filters! You can use it indoors or
outdoors. It's extremely reliable, requiring NO (or low) maintenance.
And models are readily available in sizes from 200 BTU to
2500+ BTU. Our air conditioners can be used in a variety
of Thermoelectric Enclosure Cooling Applications (TECA) for
the protection of expensive electronic equipment.
I never heard of this.
Most people haven't heard of it. The fundamental technology
behind the device ("Peltier Effect") was discovered
more than 100 years ago. In the late 1980's, we developed
this technology further and created our unique line of reliable
thermoelectric solid state air conditioners.
How can it "save"
my computers? Research has shown that for every 10°C
rise above normal room temperature, the life expectancy of
your electronics is cut in half! Mount this air conditioner
to your enclosure (or cabinet, panel, box) and it will keep
the interior area cool, thus protecting and prolonging the
life of your computers, instruments and other electronic devices
that are housed inside the enclosure.
How does it work? A detailed
explanation would be lengthy, but basically, small thermoelectric
modules (Peltier devices) are mounted inside. These act as
miniature heat pumps in conjunction with a series of heat
sinks and fans, a thermostat, and a novel and patented electronic
design. It is important to note that outside air is NOT exchanged
with inside air, which means heat AND contaminants (dust and
dirt) are kept out of your enclosure.
How do I install it?
Typically, a rectangular hole is cut into your enclosure.
The air conditioner is inserted into the hole so that the
fans on the "cold side" (portion inside the cabinet)
push cold air towards your electronics and the fans on the
"hot side" (outside) push waste heat away from the
cabinet and into the ambient environment.
Does it mount on the side
or top of my enclosure? Either orientation will work well.
The typical arrangement results in approximately half of the
unit extending into the cabinet. If interior space is limited,
however, we have models available that mount entirely outside
the cabinet, thus freeing up all the interior space for your
electronics.
How is it powered? It's
an electrical device, certified to UL Standards and available
in a variety of power configurations, including 220VAC and
DC-power. The most common arrangement is 120VAC with a power
cord and standard 3-prong male plug.
Are accessories available?
Yes, we offer accessories such as condensate drip pans, rain
shrouds, extension frames and digital temperature controllers.
O.K., it sounds quite useful.
